Global testing group Exova has appointed a former Safran Group and Airbus expert to its European aerospace division as quality manager.

Chris Cowap joins Exova from Burnley-based aerospace nacelle specialist Aircelle, part of the French-owned Safran. Prior to joining Aircelle, Chris also spent time in key roles at Airbus in Broughton, and with power and transport specialist Alstom in Manchester.

At Aircelle, Chris, of Swinton, Greater Manchester, was programme quality manager responsible for managing and assuring quality for the Rolls Royce T700 A330 nacelles.

At Airbus he worked as assurance group leader, and held positions on the long-range A300, A330 and A340 aircraft.

Joining Exova, Chris will be a member of the division’s management team, working with the aerospace divisional director to ensure Exova’s quality standards are maintained across its UK and European sites, based at the group’s Salford laboratory.

Responsibilities will include driving best practice across the division, and ensuring that Exova’s standards meet and exceed customer requirements, Nadcap processes and other industry standards.

Chris is a member of the Chartered Quality Institute with Chartered Quality Professional status (MCQI CQP) and has qualified as a lead auditor, studying quality at the University of Salford. He is also secretary for the Greater Manchester branch of the Chartered Quality Institute.

Stuart Abbs, director of Exova’s European aerospace business, said: “Chris has a background of working at the highest level within the aerospace sector, bringing his expertise in quality to bear on a series of major projects.

“With Chris at the helm, our customers will continue to receive the highest level of service from the division, and I am looking forward to working with him to bring even higher levels of quality to our work.”
