RAMPF Tooling impresses international visitors with products and solutions for light weight construction during JEC Europe 2013.

The aerospace industry, a sector where the demand for light weight construction solutions is particularly high, was at the center of this year‘s JEC Europe, the world’s largest trade fair for composites technologies and applications. The RAMPF Tooling stand was therefore especially popular, as the leading producer of liquid, paste, Close Contour and board materials for model, mold and tool making showcased its innovative products and solutions for light-weight construction with emphasis on the aerospace industry.

Key exhibits at the RAMPF Tooling stand in Paris were a glass fiber lay-up tool for the production of a cockpit cover, a helicopter cabin roof produced via galvano bath model and nickel shell lay-up tool as well as low temperature prepreg lay-up tools for the production of a wing and an acoustic panel for an airplane. All the exhibits on display were based on one material: the Close Contour product RAKU-TOOL® CC-6503.

The various exhibits showed that models made from RAKU-TOOL® CC-6503, a filled, cast polyu-rethane, can be used universally and even internationally, which the case studies for RAKU-TOOL® CC-6503 generated in Germany, Italy, Austria and Spain proved. The excellent, seam-less surface structure of the Close Contour product is especially suited for the production of lay-up tools and the promising Close Contour Casting technology offers the customer a number of advantages:

  • the CCC materials are supplied as three dimensional, oversized castings close to the final shape of the customer’s model/mold/tool and ready for machining
  • the Close Contour materials exhibit a fine, seamless surface, excellent machinability and a good dimensional stability; furthermore, no handling of liquid materials is necessary
  • based on the close contour shape, less wastage is generated and the milling time as well as cutter wear are reduced

Moreover, the latest epoxy working board material, RAKU-TOOL WB-0691, which provides a complete package solution with adhesive and repair paste for ideal and accurate work, was on display. The board material is easy and quick to machine, has a very fine surface and is compati-ble with all paints, release agents and epoxy prepregs. The application areas range from lay-up tools for low temperature prepreg, vacuum forming tools to applications in the medium tempera-ture range in racing, marine, sports, medical technology as well as machine and plant construc-tion. In addition, a case study with the classic and proven RAKU-TOOL WB-0700, used for the production of a gangplank for a sailing boat, was presented.
