Scott Bader Asia Pacific to exhibit new products

Scott Bader will feature several new products being introduced for the first time to Chinese composites manufacturing companies at China Composites 2012.

 This includes their new range of 1:1 ratio primer-less Crestabond® M7 methacrylate structural adhesives, Crystic® U1131T a new hand lay-up ATH filled fire retardant unsaturated polyester resin which meets ASTM 162, 662, BSS 7239, M2 F1, DIN 5510 S-4/SR-2/ST-2, plus the carbon fibre compatible Crestapol® 1250LV high performance urethane acrylate resin, which is a new addition to their Crestapol resin range, developed to be a cost effective alternative to epoxy infusion resin systems. As well as exhibiting at the show, Patrick O’Shea Scott Bader’s adhesives sales development manager will give a technical presentation on ‘Engineering with Structural Adhesives’ during which he will give practical advice on the use of structural adhesives with composites, metals and plastics.

The Scott Bader stand will feature the complete range of 10:1 and 1:1 ratio M1 and M7 primer-less Crestabond methacrylate structural adhesives, which require no or only minimal surface cleaning of bond surfaces. The Crestabond adhesives range has been specially developed for rapidly bonding a wide variety of composites, metals and plastics commonly used in industrial applications. Being able to use one adhesive to bond so many different types of substrates has provided attractive shop floor benefits and savings in production assembly. Manually applied with a cartridge hand gun or using a pneumatic hand gun with a bulk dispensing machine for higher volumes, Crestabond adhesives are now being cost effectively used in many demanding marine, building and construction, truck, bus, and other vehicle applications.


Crestapol 1250LV resin will be promoted on their stand along with the complete range of Crestapol closed mould and pultrusion grades. Crestapol 1250LV should be of particular interest to visitors this year as it offers composite fabricators the ability to use both carbon fibre reinforced (CFRP) and glass fibre (GRP) reinforcements to mould high performance parts at room temperature by vacuum infusion or resin transfer moulding (RTM), with a good surface finish and minimal print through. Crestapol 1250LV has competitive strength properties to an epoxy resin.  

Crestapol resins are aimed at manufacturers moulding composite parts which require exceptional fire, smoke and toxicity resistant (FST) properties, such as are needed for buildings, passenger rail and other land transportation applications. Traditional polyester and vinyl ester resin composite fabricators are able to incorporate fillers as well as carbon fibres and glass fibres into component designs, without having to specify an epoxy resin or carry out any radical processing changes; there is the added benefit of only short periods of moderate post curing needed to achieve good mechanical strength and high temperature performance. Crestapol resins offer producers superior mechanical, FST and high temperature performance, even above 240°C, rivalling not only epoxy systems, but also engineering thermoplastics such as PI, PEI and PEEK.   

Technical and commercial representatives will be on the Scott Bader stand throughout the show to discuss any projects and answer questions. Stand visitors will be able to learn about the entire range of Crystic® unsaturated polyester, DCPD and vinyl ester resins, skin coats, gelcoats, tooling products, pigments, bonding pastes and structural adhesive products.
