The carbon fiber specialist introcudes a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) spindle carrier, developed in cooperation with the engineering company Roschiwal + Partner GmbH.
The lightweight construction consists of several carbon fiber layers of multiaxial and unidirectional carbon prepregs on the basis of Sigrafil® C carbon fiber (50k) of SGL Group. This reduces the component weight of 185 kilograms of a cast iron spindle carrier to 50 kilograms of a ready-to-use CFRP spindle carrier.
The advantages of this drastic weight reduction are evident: The drives achieve better acceleration and deceleration values compared to the heavy components while maintaining the same performance, which reduces processing time and thus also production costs. A corresponding minimization of the drives in performance and installation dimensions reduces the energy and material requirement and can hence make a considerable contribution to the concept of a "green machine".
The CFRP spindle carrier consists of a rectangular CFRP profile with a hard foam core. Using load adapted fiber directions and special CFRP internal layers an extreme torsional and flexural stiff component has been created. The entire construction is patent registered and stands for the innovative power of the German machine tool industry.
