JEC Group have brought together the international community of composites leaders and executives in our Composites Circle as an unique networking opportunity to meet with both peers and future partners.
Professor and Architect Mark Goulthorpe, of the MIT Department of Architecture, confirmed as guest keynote speaker for the Future of Composites in Construction.
The formulator and supplier of technical high strength epoxy solutions, announced they have achieved Lloyd’s Register (LR) certification on a number of new systems aimed towards the marine market.
An established supplier of specialist resins into the super yacht and racing yacht sectors, Sicomin’s desire to achieve LR approval is in response to an increasing sales demand for their products across the UK, Netherlands, Germany and Turkish markets.
Two of Sicomin’s advanced resin systems successfully achieved certification; these include SR 1280, a low viscosity hand-laminating epoxy system, and secondly SR 8100, a very low viscosity infusion epoxy system.
The company participated in the LR’s application process which involved thorough assessments and rigorous test procedures. Both the SR 1280 and SR8100 systems were subsequently approved for use in the construction of marine craft built under the Lloyd’s Register’s Survey.
In conjunction with its LR approval, an extensive range of their products are already Germanischer Lloyd registered and the company enjoys good customer partnerships with H2X, Multiplast, DCNS to name but a few.
SR 1280The company developed SR 1280 in response to manufacturers looking for a low viscosity, easy hand-laminating epoxy system. Used in conjunction with the hardeners SD 4770 (very slow) and SD 4775 (fast), the system can be mixed for intermediate reactivity. During Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) tests, SR 1280’s Tg onset is calculated at approximately 100°C therefore demonstrating good mechanical properties. SR 1280 has been successfully used for several marine projects including under water applications in the renewable energy sector.
SR 8100A very low viscosity product, SR 8100 is designed specifically for infusion and RTM techniques. In addition to LR certification, SR8100 has also achieved Germanischer Lloyd approval and is utilised by many of Sicomin’s industrial, marine, energy, transportation, sports and leisure customers. SR 8100 is a two component system and is compatible with a variety of hardeners allowing the construction of small to large parts with rapid remoulding time.
