The 60 foot (18.3 meter) yacht sailed in the race, its first since the construction was completed. Led by sailor Nándor Fa, the Spirit of Hungary circumnavigated the globe in just 110 days, 10 hours and 59 minutes.
Zoltek began sponsoring the production of a world class racing vessel known as the Spirit of Hungary in 2012.Built by Fa, the Spirit of Hungary was built using Zoltek’s Panex 35 carbon fiber. Uni-Directional fabrics were used to assemble the hull of the deck, the beams, the keels, and the rudders. A combination of uni-directional and multi-directional fabrics with vacuum infusion was used to construct the interior structure. The resulting vessel was 30% lighter than similar sized boats made of traditional materials.About Zoltek:Zoltek Companies, Inc., a global provider in industrial-grade carbon fiber, develops low-cost carbon fiber and carbon fiber application solutions used in wind turbine blades, automotive parts, thermoplastic compounding, offshore drilling, infrastructure, marine, and various other commercial products.
