ThermHex superlight and super-strong honeycomb cores

JEC Europe 2015 - Sponsored Innovation - The innovative ThermHex technology for the continuous production of polypropylene honeycomb cores supports the production of highly cost-efficient sandwich structures.

Polypropylene (PP) honeycomb is a strong but lightweight material that provides efficient and optimal mechanical performance in sandwich panel structures.

Different to traditional production processes, the patented EconCore process allows for the production of PP honeycomb sheets in theoretically endless lengths. The products are produced from a single polypropylene film in a continuous thermoforming, folding and bonding process. The non-woven layers and barrier films are in-line laminated onto the core.

ThermHex Waben GmbH produces a broad range of core products with a standard density of 80 kg/m³. For less demanding applications, a reduced-density core is available with a density of 60 kg/m³. Core thickness ranges from 3 to 30 mm with cell sizes varying from 3 to 9.6 mm.

ThermHex Waben GmbH recently developed ThermHex honeycomb cores in 45 kg/m³ density for all thicknesses starting from 12 mm and 120 kg/m³ density for all core thicknesses. The 45 kg/m³ density honeycomb cores are superlight and super-low-priced honeycomb cores, which are best used in non-structural applications. The 120 kg/m³ density honeycomb cores are super-strong honeycomb cores with high compression strength that qualify for highly demanding applications.
