Velox sets innovation in the service of weight reduction, productivity and recyclability

The company in the marketing and distribution of raw material specialities for the plastics, composites, additives and paints and coatings industries, organised its first technical forum at the CEMCAT in Laval (France), in partnership with the companies Samyang and Crossfire/CMT.

Velox sets innovation in the service of weight reduction, productivity and recyclability

A group of players from the transportation and automotive industries was introduced to the TRICAP range, the latest composite innovation based on new-generation hybrid resins.

The attending industry specialists very quickly understood the multiple benefits offered by these products which, due to their low implementation costs, allow companies to significantly increase their productivity when manufacturing structural parts.

Pascal Dubois, Advanced Composites Business Development Manager at Velox, points out: “With its patented formula, the epoxy based polymer offers a viscosity that ensures a fibre impregnation rate nearing 100%; this, in turn, provides the composite with exceptional mechanical resistance, allowing significant weight reduction in parts. This hybrid resin can also be processed as a pre-impregnated material. It can be stored at room temperature and does not require high pressure levels for processing, therefore significantly reducing tooling costs."

Non-consolidated TRICAP P allows companies to manufacture “one-shot” parts that are painted inside the mould. After reticulation between 160 and 230°C, this polymer allows a certain degree of thermoformability, once reheated above its Glass Transition temperature (Tg ~110°C), therefore it can be easily recycled. Lower reticulation levels allow parts to be assembled without adhesives; consolidation is ensured by heating only.

Gianluigi Creonti (Crossfire) and Marcel Schubiger (CMT), creators of this resin technology, and of the impregnated systems, emphasise that “this polymer challenges all preconceived ideas regarding the behaviours of thermosetting materials and thermoplastics. This unique innovation is perfectly suited to the economic and environmental constraints faced by OEMs and all players in the composites industry.”
