Vestas Technology R&D appoints new managing director and creates a new VP innovation role

Vestas Technology R&D Singapore has appointed Dr. Ian Chatting as its Managing Director and Vice President for the Rotor Systems with immediate effect. Ian will focus on improving stakeholder relationships for the entire Singapore Technology operations by leveraging his many connections in Vestas.

Dr. Chatting started off as design and validation engineer at BAE systems and then an aero-structures project manager at GKN Aerospace. He then moved on to strategic business improvement programmes in aerospace and automotive industries whilst completing a PhD. He returned to GKN as Head of technology. 


Dr. Chatting joined the wind industry in 2001 with Neg-Micon (now Vestas Wind Systems). Prior to joining Vestas Tech R&D Singapore as Managing Director, he was leading international teams developing advanced technologies for wind power plants while based in Isle of Wright, UK. Leading edge Technology is delivered through global programmes by specialist teams in USA, Asia and Europe working together with a network of industrial and academic partnerships. Areas of responsibility include aerodynamics, composites structures, materials, mechanical drives and control systems.


Mr .Peter Cheng who has been the Managing Director of Vestas Technology R&D for the past 2 years will now take on a new role as VP, Asia Innovation. With Vestas focus on the important Asia Market, Mr. Cheng’s role will be crucial in developing strategy for external funding and partnerships across all of Asia.


With these two key appoints, we are confident that Vestas would be able to further strengthen our existing relationships and at the same time create new ones to achieve mutually favourable outcomes on all our collaborations across Asia Pacific region.
