JEC Europe 2014 - A new lightweight, assembly-optimized aerospace connector has been developed from Victrex PEEK polymer. This results in a 9% weight saving compared to its metal predecessor.

In addition to lowering weight, reducing the time it takes to install components is imperative for Amphenol Pcd. Through both companies’ efforts, Victrex PEEK polymer was able to give Amphenol's engineering team the freedom and processing flexibility to simplify and consolidate parts when it came to designing and manufacturing the ground block.

Instead of installing several metal retention clips separately, a one-piece Victrex PEEK retention clip is used to make the process much easier and more efficient for the assembly teams. Amphenol has proven Victrex PEEK's durability by testing the polymer in hydraulic fluid at 70°C for 1,000 hours. In addition to being non-corrosive, the non-conductive nature of the polymer also helped improve the electrical integrity of the connector.
