BGF Industries, a global manufacturer of woven and nonwoven materials from high performance fibers, announces the latest innovation in thermoplastic composite material – PolyPreg.

PolyPreg is a woven co-mingled glass/polypropylene fabric that can be directly consolidated with the addition of heat and minimal pressure, into a high strength composite part. The only domestically produced composite of its kind, parts made from PolyPreg may be used in various applications in the automotive, building, construction, marine, military and defense, sports, leisure and transportation industries.

The material is soft and conformable to complex shapes and is available in 750 grams per square meter (GSM) or 1500 GSM and natural or black colors.

Laminated, molded or pultruded processing conditions are recommended at a temperature of 400°F and a cool pressure of 20 to 100 PSI, making processing easy. With an unlimited shelf life PolyPreg requires no cold storage and can withstand temperatures up to 300°F. UV stable in nature, the material maintains its color and form upon exposure to sunlight and is less likely to become brittle, crack or become discolored. Additionally, PolyPreg produces no emissions and is fully recyclable.

PolyPreg is the first product to be released in the DryPreg product line, a comprehensive offering of new thermoplastic materials developed by BGF. DryPreg products currently in development will combine other high performance fibers and resin systems to offer a varied line of thermoplastic composite materials. Additional products are slated for release later this year.
