Saint-Gobain to supply nose radome for Pilatus PC-24 Twin Jet

The radomes will be manufactured with advanced Norton Armor materials from Saint-Gobain that provide superior radar transparency and in-flight durability.

"Saint-Gobain has been the radome supplier to the PC-12 for more than 20 years and we are excited to join with Pilatus on the new PC-24 business jet program", says Eric Evennou, Sales Manager, Europe, for Saint-Gobain Aerospace.
Saint Gobain engineers work closely with Pilatus to provide the hightest transparnecy radome and the lightest weight structure for the PC-24 business jet.

Molded Fiber Glass awarded custom construction project on police headquarters in Kansas City

Molded Fiber Glass Construction Products (MFG CP) molded 529 triangle fiber glass waffle forms that were engineered to create the architectural cast in place concrete ceiling in their community room.

The custom forms were two depth sizes: 38” and 30” and provided a dramatic effect in the suspended ceiling. The waffle forms are lightweight and economical to use, resulting in easier mobility as well as offsetting high labor costs.

Cytec selected as preferred advanced materials supplier for LEAP-1 engine program

Cytec announces its selection as the preferred advanced materials supplier for the Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion (LEAP) high-bypass turbofan engine program.

Developed by CFM International, a joint venture between Snecma (Safran) and GE Aviation, the LEAP-1 engine program's use of advanced composite materials will reduce the weight by an estimated 500 pounds per aircraft. The next-generation engine will reduce fuel consumption by 15 percent, nitrogen oxide emissions by 50 percent and noise by 15 decibels. LEAP-1 engines are an option for Airbus's A320neo program and have been selected for the C919 program, COMAC's new single-aisle commercial jet. Cytec is planning to expand production capacities in Europe and the U.S.

Platina and Arise open Nordics largest onshore windfarm

At 200MW, the development will be the Nordics largest onshore wind project and one of the biggest in Europe.

Private equity infrastructure specialist Platina Partners LLP (Platina) and leading Swedish onshore wind developer Arise Windpower AB (Arise), celebrated the official opening of the €336 million Jädraås wind farm at an event at the site.

The wind farm utilises the Vestas V112 turbine which stands at a height of 175 metres, currently the tallest commercial onshore wind turbine. The 66 turbine project was constructed on time and on budget in a period of less than 18 months, and will generate sufficient electricity to power 150,000 homes.

ATK agrees to multi-million dollar contract to produce composite aft fan cases for Rolls-Royce

The company announced the award of a contract valued at more than $50 million from Rolls-Royce plc, United Kingdom, to produce aft fan composite cases for the new Trent XWB-97 engine.

The contract has the potential to grow to more than $200 million. This Rolls-Royce engine is the sole engine now available to power the Airbus A350-1000 aircraft variant.

The life-of-type contract with Rolls-Royce further highlights ATK's key role as a provider of large-scale composite components for commercial aircraft and engines. ATK has been producing aft fan cases for the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 engines since 2009.

ITT Exelis receives multimillion dollar contract from Lockheed Martin F-35 program

ITT Exelis has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract from Lockheed Martin to fabricate composite blade seal components for all variants of the F-35 Lightning II program.

This award will support production for LRIP 6 and 7 through 2015. Production of the blade seals will take place at the new Exelis composite design and manufacturing center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Spirit AeroSystems and Spintech ventures partner on complex composite aircraft manufacturing

Spirit AeroSystems announced it has been working with Spintech Ventures, of Xenia, Ohio, to develop a new reconfigurable tooling technology for manufacturing complex composite aircraft structures.

The solution uses re-formable, reusable mandrels to form complex, highly integrated composite structures, with features that are not possible with traditional tools.

In 2005, Spirit AeroSystems began collaboration with Cornerstone Research Group Inc. (CRG) and CRG's affiliate company, Spintech Ventures LLC, to refine and scale-up the technology. Spintech is now offering the technology under the trade name Smart Tooling. Spirit's version of the technology, which includes enhancements to enable large, integrated, single-sided reinforced structures, is known as Inflexion.
