AVIC Chengfei delivered Boeing 787-9 composite rudder
Recently, AVIC Chengdu Civil Aircraft Co., Ltd. (AVIC Chengfei) has delivered the first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner rudder.
The rudder is completely made in China and will be shipped from Chengdu to Chongqing, Shanghai, and through ocean to Boeing USA assembly factory for assembly. It is understood that the first 787-9 aircraft is expected to be delivered next year, when the aircraft will be equipped with the China-made rudder.
The development of 787-9 aircraft rudder began in May 2012, and AVIC Chengfei is the only supplier. Composite materials has accounted for up to 60% to 70% in Boeing 787-9 rudder. The rudder has large dimension, complicated shape structure, and extensive use of carbon fiber composite materials.
At present, capable of carrying 250 to 290 passengers the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has entered the comprehensive testing phase. During the middle of this year, it will be completed and delivered to New Zealand Airline. The development and production of the Boeing 787-10 configuration is expected to start in 2014.
