Maybe not as fast as expected, the change towards more sophisticated processes and, consequently, nobler raw materials, can be finally noticed. This trend is quite evident when looking at the increasing demand for the peroxides of acetyl acetone of Polinox – the product is used, for example, in the molding of parts through the RTM process. From 2010 until now, the sales of Brasnox AAP^® rose 20% per year. In contrast, the business involving simpler peroxides, which fifteen years ago represented half of the company’s revenues, won’t even reach 10% today.

“We have been feeling in our product mix that the market is more mature, with molders willing to stand out in terms of quality rather than price. In addition, the competition with other materials has led many companies to seek more productive processes, such as the RTM, SMC and infusion,” says Roberto Pontifex, director of Polinox.

According to the latest survey of the Latin American Composite Materials Association (ALMACO), the processing in closed molds accounted for 48% of the 154,000 tons of polyester composites produced in Brazil, in 2013. Environmental pressure, better finish and increased productivity were – and will continue to be, warns ALMACO – the factors that will lead the most advanced technologies to overcome manual lamination very soon.
