Flame-retardant adhesive for power packs in marine applications
LAURENT CHOUVET TECHNICAL SUPPORT ADHESIVES, COMPOSITES AND TOOLING HUNTSMAN ADVANCED MATERIALS
(Published on August-September 2010 - JEC Magazine #59)
CIn 2009, Huntsman Advanced Materials used its extensive knowledge in formulating self-extinguishing materials to develop and launch its Araldite 2033.
The properties of this two-component structural epoxy adhesive include flame retardancy, low smoke density and low toxic emissions, and are in compliance with the requirements for the UL94 V-0 flammability classification.
Due to its combination of good mechanical performance and self-extinguishing properties, Araldite 2033 was selected as the adhesive used to bond and stabilize the components in power packs for marine applications.

During the manufacturing process, the electronic components are assembled on a printed board. The adhesive bonds the components to the board and also acts as a damping material to prevent soldering material fatigue. The assembly needs to resist vibration and temperatures ranging from -10°C up to 100°C.
