The TeXtreme® Spread Tow Fabric has several properties that make it suitable for high performance bicycle frame construction: it is very light, the fibers are aligned perfectly and the cloth is effectively two dimensional allowing optimal resin content of the resulting prepreg material, and strong inter layer bonding. Due to the unique properties and performance characteristics of TeXtreme® it will be necessary to modify the existing layup patterns and application methods in order to derive the maximum performance benefits.
The research and development project will also involve formulation and application of novel resins using a high quality process in order to achieve the best mechanical properties and prepreg uniformity. This will be done in collaboration with a major industrial resin and adhesives manufacturer in Taiwan.
The results of this research and development project are expected by the end of 2012.
