RheTech is one of the first 100 companies to receive this accreditation, which requires that biobased products be composed entirely or significantly from agricultural ingredients.  The new label will make it easier for Federal buyers to identify these products and will provide RheTech with preferred supplier status within the Federal government and other markets.  The independently certified program and labels will also increase consumer awareness of RheTech’s high-value and ecologically-friendly products.

“We are very enthusiastic about being accepted into the BioPreferred program,” said Jim Preston, vice president of Strategic Growth at RheTech.  “Being one of the first companies to get material accreditation helps to further reinforce RheTech’s long-standing commitment to the environment, and opens up a whole new market for us within the federal government.”

About the BioPreferred Program
USDA’s BioPreferred program was created by the 2002 Farm Bill to increase the purchase and use of biobased products within the Federal government and the commercial market. Congress reauthorized and strengthened the program in the 2008 Farm Bill to further promote the sale of biobased products.

With the launch of this new biobased product label, USDA’s BioPreferred program now comprises two parts: a biobased product procurement preference program for Federal agencies, and a voluntary labeling initiative for the broad-scale marketing of biobased products.
