New composites hub in Asia: a great success

Exhibitors thrilled by the quality and number of visitors
JEC's forecasts were greatly exceeded, with 8,325 visitors coming through the doors of JEC Asia (including an aggregate audience of 873 for the 68 conferences).
The professionals from the Asia-Pacific region really made the most of the event, and Asian visitors turned up in great numbers, accounting for 82.3% of the visitors from the 58 countries that attended the event over three days.
More than 300 exhibitors: a massive thumbs-up for the composites industry
The stands of over 300 companies filled the two exhibition halls down to the last square metre. In order to accommodate all the exhibitors, JEC had to move its forums and conferences into a third hall.
There were six national stands (China, France, India, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand) and 26 countries in all represented by the exhibitors, with a significant majority from Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. At the head of the representative rankings were China, Singapore, India, Japan and Taiwan.
Exceptional participation of exhibitors from Asia
A true showcase of the know-how of the Asia-Pacific region, the show was representative of the high levels of industrialisation and sophistication in the industry, and covered every sector of application: aerospace and MRO, road transport and the new generation of rolling stock, and construction (pipes, tanks and domes made of composites).
Content and trends
The first edition of JEC Show Asia provided an exhaustive vision of what the Asian market has to offer, with a cross-section of exhibitors representing every segment that makes up the value chain of the composites industry: raw material producers (glass, basalt and carbon fibres, thermoplastic and thermosetting resins, natural fibres), semi-product and part processors (compounds, prepregs, core materials, fabrics, hand processes, SMC, GMT, BMC, injection, RTM, RIM, pultrusion, lamination, centrifugation, filament winding, etc.), equipment and software manufacturers, distributors, research centres and institutes.
Connecting science, technology and business
In addition to the national delegations and main national associations that were present at the trade show and which played such a part in the success of this inaugural event, there was also a strong representation of the top universities and R&D centres which today are working in close collaboration with manufacturers: Stanford University (USA), Nanyang University (South Korea), NUS – National University of Singapore, etc.
JEC Asia 2009: 75% more floor space
The next edition of JEC Show Asia, now an annual event, will take place from October 14-16, 2009 in Singapore (SUNTEC Exhibition Centre).
In the light of the success of this first Expo, the JEC Group has already reserved 11,500 m² of floor space, which is 75% up on this year (6,500 m² in 2008).
