Full capacity for the JEC Composites Show 2009

Full capacity for the JEC Composites Show 2009
The many new applications were a boost to the spirit of composite manufacturers and end-user sectors.
“During a global crisis, there is much collective soul-searching. In the present crisis, we have opportunities. Standard strategies are being reassessed and put aside for new ideas, new organization and the more dynamic networks. The Show attracted many designers and engineers, and this year there were large numbers of visitors from end-user sectors. This is cause for optimism. Rapidly growing industries including renewable energies, wind energy, aerospace, construction and biocomposites exhibited many new applications.” says JEC President and CEO Frédérique Mutel.
1. All programmes and all eight halls filled to capacity
Despite a troubled global economic situation, innovative projects flourish in the composite sector, and this was corroborated by the packed 2009 session:
- 1,065 international companies and brand names participated (75% from abroad, 25% from France). The Show attracted players from all segments of the composite sector, especially processing businesses;
- 46,500 m² of surface area this year, or 8% more area than in 2008, and the addition of an eighth hall;
- 27,700 visitors and delegates from 96 countries (25,500 visitors & 2,200 delegates), with 65% from abroad and 35% from France.
2. The Show chosen for its efficiency: 589 million euros in results
Exhibitors at the JEC Composites Show get returns on their investment that are second to none (2009 survey). On average, each company acquires 65 useful contacts at the Show, with the cumulated results for all exhibitors estimated at 589 million euros in additional sales.
In 2009, the Show proposed a new Programme of Business Meetings for exhibitors and specifiers. 200+ prestigious buyers – including Airbus, Alstom, Altor, Areva, Beneteau, Bugatti Gmbh, Dassault Aviation, Delsey, EADS, Eurocopter, Faurecia, Messier Dowty, Oceanward, Ratier Figeac, Safran, Thales, PSA, Repower Gmbh and more – participated.
3. Users more and more won over by composite materials
The Show is a genuine platform for the global composite industry, and one of its defining characteristics is its end-user oriented position. The 2009 session recorded a significant increase in the number of end-user visitors: two out of three visitors were users of composite solutions in the main application sectors, namely aerospace, wind energy, automotive, land transport, construction, civil engineering, marine, electrical & electronic equipment, sports & leisure, consumer goods, etc.
Among visitors, four sectors recorded strong growth at this year’s session:
- Wind energy: +35%
- Aerospace: +28%
- Construction: +18%
- Automotive: +16%
4. The 10 user forums were packed, showing the growing interest for innovation
JEC continues to explore all application sectors in order to provide high-quality technical content to all players in the composite industry.
Its programme of forums and conferences is a showcase for composite know-how and excellence, with 80 of the best international speakers, and audiences totalling more than 2,200. This year, four new subjects were proposed: wind energy, automation, civil engineering, and a technical conference on design and composite materials in partnership with Stanford University (USA).
And for the tenth year in a row, the Show hosted the hundred or so technical conferences given by the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE) in parallel with the Show.
5. Paris, the European capital for composites
The Show brings in visitors from everywhere in the world, with 96 different nationalities. This year, the number of visitors from Europe rose in general, especially from Central and Eastern Europe. There was a spectacular increase from Germany and Eastern Europe (16% lumped together), with at least 300 exhibiting German companies and brand names. Paris is unquestionably the European capital for composites.
6. Automation is a key-subject for the sector.
Partnership agreement with the German Automatica trade show and SAMPE
These days, all composite segments seek to optimize and automate their processes and production systems. JEC helps to diffuse information on the subject and organized a first automation user forum in 2009. JEC also signed a partnership agreement with leading German automation trade show Automatica in Munich on 8-11 June 2010 where JEC will organize a dedicated composite pavilion. SAMPE will organize a parallel technical conference.
