Anmet launches a patented process for producing chipboard panels made from recycled end-of-life composites for the construction industry

Anmet’s previous solutions in the field of wind blade recycling were mainly based on their mechanical processing and creating products with a higher value (upcycling). However, the quantitative possibilities of such processing is limited, therefore, as the owner of Anmet, Andrzej Adamcio, emphasizes, they were aimed at drawing more attention to the problem and showing the possibility of processing blades. Today, the company has created a working business based on the sale of furniture and engineering objects made of decommissioned wind blades, what’s more, it even has imitators on the other side of the ocean who used patterns created by Anmet.

Throughout the development of upcycling blades recycling solutions, the company conducted independent research together with the University of Life Sciences in Poznań, the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology under the leadership of Prof. Dr. hab. Radosław Mirski and the Koszalin University of Technology, a center for measuring the physical and mechanical properties of wood materials run by Dr. Eng. Wiesława Szada-Borzyszkowski and dr hab. Eng. Tomasz Rydzkowski prof. PK, consisting in examining the possibility of using composites as an addition to chipboards.

The result of the research is Anmet’s global patent for the production process and the plates themselves with the participation of shredded composites (not only from blades but composites in general) in the range from 1 to 99% of the weight of the finished product.

Among the many advantages of such a solution, the following should be mentioned:

  • the ability to recycle the plates multiple times,
  • increased strength compared to standard plates,
  • reduced water absorption,
  • increased fire resistance,
  • no need to provide drying process as in the case of wood chips,
  • reduction of wood consumption.

Talks are currently underway with chipboard manufacturers to commercialize the patent. The first companies from the construction industry interested in implementing panels in their projects have already appeared.

To meet the demand, the company also started the construction of a mobile shredder for shredding blades on-site in a protective atmosphere to ensure the supply of raw material for the plate manufacturer according to Anmet patent.
