China: Bamboo-based composite materials are included in the national 14th five-year bio-economic development plan
The bamboo-based composite material industry got support from China’s central policy again. The National Development and Reform Commission issued the “14th Five-Year Plan for Bioeconomic Development”. The plan mentions that it will cultivate and expand the pillar industries of the bio-economy, promote the development of bamboo-based composite material technology, and promote its exemplary applications in the construction of urban integrated pipe corridors and other infrastructure.
Initiated by the company Zhejiang Xinzhou Bamboo-based Composites Technology in the mid 2000’s, bamboo-based composite material is a new type of bio-based material with bamboo as the basic raw material which has an excellent cost-performance ratio while enabling to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. Bamboo-based composite pipes, pipe galleries, integrated modular houses, military products, high-speed rail carriages and other products processed from this material can be widely used in transportation, municipal administration, water conservancy, construction and military industries, etc.
Relevant experts suggested that the research and development of bamboo-based composite materials should be increased at the national level to improve the quality and efficiency of existing bamboo-based composite materials, and new products of bamboo-based composite materials should be continuously developed to expand the application fields. The aim is to encourage state-owned enterprises to participate in the industrialization of bamboo-based pipes and pipe corridors and carry out large-scale demonstration applications through government-led projects.
