Sinoma Suzhou’s 210L hydrogen storage cylinders sustain hydrogen-powered heavy trucks

China’s first commercial hydrogen internal-combustion engine heavy truck equipped with Sinoma Suzhou’s 210L hydrogen storage cylinder set was unveiled. This heavy truck model was jointly released by Sinotruck and Weichai Power.

It is a new generation of high-end heavy trucks of Sinotruk, equipped with a 13L hydrogen internal-combustion engine independently developed by Weichai Power, which can be commercially applied to special transportation operating areas such as ports, cities, power plants, steel mills, and industrial parks. 

Different from traditional internal-combustion engines, hydrogen internal-combustion engines use hydrogen as fuel and complete the conversion of chemical energy into mechanical energy. This hydrogen internal-combustion engine heavy truck is equipped with 10 aluminum liner carbon fiber full-wound 210L hydrogen cylinders manufactured by Sinoma Suzhou, and the hydrogen filling capacity can reach 50.19 kg. Compared with traditional fuel combustion engines, hydrogen internal-combustion engines provide green energy power while enabling more lasting power for vehicles. 

Sinoma Suzhou is a subsidiary of China’s special fiber composite materials giant Sinoma Science & Technology. Commercial heavy trucks are the main force to achieve the decarbonization goal in the transportation field, and the supporting hydrogen energy storage and transportation equipment is one of the important directions of Sinoma Suzhou’s product research and development. The 210L aluminum liner carbon fiber full-wound hydrogen cylinder is specially designed for heavy truck models. It adopts an original plate-type deep-drawing liner molding process and composite material molding process. It has the characteristics of “large volume and light weight”, significantly improving the cost and safety of commercial heavy trucks, according to Sinoma. 

With the rapid development of the Chinese hydrogen energy industry, the application scenarios of hydrogen energy have expanded from automobile manufacturing to many fields such as drones, ships, backup power supplies, and special equipment. Currently, Sinoma Suzhou has an annual production capacity of 70,000 hydrogen cylinders, ranging from 1.5L to 385L, and gradually forms the layout of a full range of hydrogen energy storage and transportation products such as a 35-70MPa series of vehicle-mounted high-pressure fuel cell hydrogen cylinders, high-pressure hydrogen storage cylinders for drones, and fixed and mobile hydrogen storage and transport equipment for stations.
