Pinette PEI launches the world’s largest thermoplastic press for stamp forming
Pinette PEI, a key player in industrial solutions for composite material stamp forming, announces the upcoming commissioning of its large-scale thermoplastic press cell for stamp forming, a revolutionary thermoplastic press in terms of size and performance.

With platens measuring 5m x 2m and a stamping force of 30,000 kN (3000T), this press is the largest ever designed for thermoplastic composite stamp forming. It is set to play a key role in the next-generation aerospace industry, where composite materials are essential for reducing weight, improving repairability and enhancing recyclability.
Cutting-edge technology for the composite industry
The development of this press required significant engineering advancements to ensure both exceptional geometric precision and optimised thermal management. Its key features include:
- Ultra-fast material transfer from infrared heating to the press in less than 5 seconds.
- Advanced multi-functionality, with autonomous robotic systems handling release agents, sensor couplings, dummy part manipulation and tool positioning.
- Optimised energy management, leveraging preheating and cooling stations for efficient and uniform thermal transfer using thermal oil.
- Automated tool change and transfer, enhancing production flexibility.
A strategic partnership with Airbus
This technology will be integrated into Airbus Aerostructures’ facilities in Bremen, where the press will be officially commissioned in December 2024. It will support the ramp-up of next-generation thermoplastic composite part production, strengthening the European aerospace industry’s competitiveness.
A step forward for the industry of the future
Thanks to this innovation, aerospace and automotive manufacturers will be able to produce large-scale components with unprecedented performance. This technological leap paves the way for more sustainable and efficient production, aligning with major players’ decarbonisation and circular economy objectives.
